WSALPHO is a
partner with the Department of Health, the State Board of Health, and the
University of Washington in the development and implementation of the Public
Health Improvement Partnership (PHIP). The method used to move the Public
Health System forward under the PHIP is through the work of several
committees. In addition to the Public Health Finance Committee and the
Communications/Marketing Committee (both of which originated with WSALPHO)
which are separately detailed in WSALPHO work plans, the following Committees
will be working through the next year to accomplish the goals articulated in
the PHIP:

RELATIONSHIP TO WSALPHO BYLAWS
Article III of the
WSALPHO Bylaws states: “The mission of public health is to improve health
status through the promotion of health and the prevention of and protection
from injury and disease. To support this mission, the purpose of WSALPHO is
to encourage improvement in the quality, capacity, and leadership of health
departments/districts in order to provide a more effective, efficient and
consistent public health infrastructure throughout the state. To support this
vision, the WSALPHO shall: A. Assume an active role in public health policy,
including legislation, ordinances and regulations pertaining to core public
health functions at the local, state and, when appropriate, federal levels.
B. Advise the Washington State Department of Health regarding public health
issues in the state. C. Organize and participate in efforts to enhance the
abilities of public health workers. D. Participate in the development and
implementation of local public health program standards which include
criteria to evaluate local public health programs. E. Contribute to improved
standards of professional performance, both for individual practitioners and
for local public health agencies, by fostering and encouraging research,
education and dissemination of information. F. Promote the highest degree of
skill, efficiency, and professional competence to all profession disciplines
contributing to the health of the public through a mutual exchange of
knowledge, experience and information. G. Actively contribute to the
development of leadership from and among the practicing disciplines of public
health.”
The PHIP Committees
provide a vehicle for WSALPHO to accomplish the vision and purposes outlined
in its bylaws.
