The Washington State Association of Local Public Health Officials is a
non-profit organization that brings together the leadership of local health
departments. The Association creates a constructive and collegial environment
needed to advance the broad interests of public health. The Mission of public
health is to improve health status through the promotion of health and the
prevention of and the protection from injury and disease.
To support
this mission, the purpose of WSALPHO is to encourage improvement in the
quality, capacity and leadership of health departments/districts in order to
provide a more effective, efficient and consistent public health
infrastructure throughout Washington state.
Assumes an active role in public health policy.
Advises the
Washington State Department of Health regarding public health issues in the
state.
Organizes
and participates in efforts to enhance the abilities of public health
workers.
Participates in the development and implementation of local public health
standards.
Contributes
to improved standards of professional performance.
Promotes
the highest degree of skill, efficiency and professional competence through a
mutual exchange of knowledge, experience and information.
Actively
contributes to the development of leadership from, and among, the practicing
disciplines of public health.
