Clean Diesel Grants Available for County Fleet Vehicles through Dept. of Ecology

The Washington State Department of Ecology invites cities, counties, state agencies, public utility districts/coops, regulated utilities, port and transit authorities and private fleets operating mainly in Washington to apply for funds to install retrofit exhaust emission control and idle reduction technologies on heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment through the Washington State Clean Diesel Grant Program. Public fleets may receive funding for both retrofit exhaust emission control and idle reduction technologies. Private fleets may receive funding only for retrofit exhaust emission control technologies.

This program has funded the retrofitting of more than 7,000 heavy-duty vehicles since 2002. The total funding for this opportunity is approximately $2,500,000. Funds must be used to pay for equipment and installation. Grant recipients may not use retrofit funds to pay for administrative expenses. Each eligible project will be evaluated based on its ability to reduce exposure to diesel emissions and improve public health.

Priority consideration will be given to applications received on or before June 6, 2008.
