ABOUT WSAC
Helping counties improve their capacity to serve their
citizens.
Created in 1906, the Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC) has
worked to advocate for local government needs and support critical
county services for a century. WSAC members include elected county
commissioners, council members and executives from all of Washington's
39 counties. Each year WSAC works with statewide elected officials and
members of the Legislature to promote positions that help counties serve
their citizens.
The Washington State Association of Counties is a voluntary, non-profit
association serving all of Washington’s 39 counties. In 2006, the
Association celebrated its 100th year of service. The Association
provides a variety of services to its member counties, including
advocacy and liaison with the Legislature and statewide elected and
appointed officials, training and workshops, a worker’s compensation
retrospective rating pool, technical assistance (in areas such as
timber, transportation permitting, farm worker housing, and more) and
the opportunity to network and share best practices.
While voting within the organization is limited to county commissioners,
council members and county executives, the Association also serves as an
umbrella organization for affiliate organizations representing county
road engineers, local public health officials, county administrators,
emergency managers, county human service administrators, clerks of
county boards, and others. In addition, we work closely with our sister
organization, the Washington Association of County Officials (WACO),
which serves independently elected non-judicial county officials
including auditors, treasurers, prosecutors, coroners, clerks, and
sheriffs.
