ARCHIVES OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
The Archives Oversight Committee was created by statute 36.22.175 and was organized as a committee of the Washington Association of County Officials. The purpose of the committee is to oversee and make recommendations regarding expenditures of the funds collected by local government for the State Archivist for the benefit of local government records. Currently, $1 is collected on every document recorded with county auditors. According to RCW 36.22.175 this revenue is to be used specifically to support the Washington State Archives activities related to essential legal and historical local government records in the areas of security microfilm, records management, disaster recovery, training, and to support the operation of the five regional archives branches. In January 2002 an additional $1 was added specifically to support the new State Digital Archives and to establish a grant program to local government agencies for records management and historical preservation.
