"Lewis County is 2,477 square miles. Lewis
County Courthouse is located in the town of Chehalis.
The original building is still maintained as a monument
to early day pioneers. The county was named after
Captain Meriwether Lewis of the famed Lewis and
Clark expedition.
The pictured courthouse building above was constructed
in 1927, and J. DeForest Griffen was the architect.
In the beginning all the elected county officials
remained in this building while all other departments
were housed in the 3 story annex which was built
across the street in the early 1950's. Today, the
county has grown and not all the county officials
can be housed in the main courthouse. The newly
remodeled annex houses many of the county departments."
